swaddling

what he is wrapped in
     words that float like clouds
     envisioned to inspire:
someday I will change the world

what he is wrapped in
     turquoise lettered
     machine washable and
     mom-approved
     pairs with a crib sheet
     of labeled continents
     and nameless countries
orange planes and hot air balloons
     in the southeast corner
     a compass rose

what he is wrapped in
     snug and secure
     someday
      oh-so-soft
     I will change the world

I hold him
considering the changes
white men have made
men who seem to want to
same the world

what luxury we wrap
them in
white boys
white men
so soft
so breathable
